This gallery contains visual and written art work that the women of our project have created at some point on their journey of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
"Free Falling" by Karen
The sketch "Free Falling" shows several images of myself drifting like leaves gliding to the ground in the wind. We can try to fight the fall, grabbing wildly at what we have left behind. Or we can open our arms and surrender. The fall is inevitable, but the choice is ours.
Brain Storm by Diane B.
Meditating to the soft hum of the dishwasher, swishing water cleans the debris from tonight's dinner. The persistent ringing in my ears replicates a concerto's accomplishment reiterating the news from the latest doctor visit. My aching body longs for sleep; my taxing brain longs for comfort. I close my eyes: The swishing transforms into the sound of a rushing creek, the ringing into a hummingbird's song, and the throbbing of my brain resounds of thunder just before the storm.
