"I watched how the waves had the ability to transform things. Bits of shells and pebbles were worn smooth over time. Even shards of trash, like broken bottles, became beautiful when churned in the folds of the sea."
I wondered what the sea would do to my breast…
The Breast and the Sea empowers those who have been affected by breast cancer. We are whole, with and without breasts. We are beautiful, with and without scars. Sharing vulnerabilities provides inspiration and courage to those going through the trenches of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, as well as their loved ones and caregivers. We are building a sanctuary that gathers together the many voices of breast cancer — offering support, community, and healing.
Each and every one of us has scars of one form or another — whether physical or emotional — as well as the potential to transform.
Our project is called The Breast and the Sea, after the story of Rebecca's relationship with the sea, and the clay breast she made as she came to terms with the upcoming loss of her breast. (Click here to learn more)
Collectively our stories and images are more potent than any standing on its own. Just as no single wave in the ocean by itself seems like much, but combined make up the mighty sea. By weaving our stories together, we can bring a new level of inspiration to our individual experiences. Please join us. Let us work together to create a resource that can help make a difference in the lives of breast cancer survivors, previvors, and patients on their journey toward health and wholeness.
